Once again, Truman's ACS student affiliates have won an "Outstanding Chapter" award from the education division of the ACS for the 2006-07 academic year! Additionally this year, for the first time, they will receive a "Green Chemistry Chapter" award. They have done an incredible job over the past year. The students involved are too many to list, but special recognition should go to the presidents/vice-presidents over the past year (Melissa Thorstad, Nathaniel Webber, Josh Hirner) and the historian who wrote the report this year (Caitlin Schupp). Congratulations! (9/21)
Professor David Wohlers' ongoing work to expand opportunities and develop new techniques to help the vision impaired succeed in chemistry has recently received national attention. His efforts and others were recently highlighted in articles printed in C&E News, the Baltimore Sun and in a news story run locally on KTVO television. Way to go, Dave! (9/21)
The student affiliates of the American Chemical Society are working with several others on campus to begin a program to produce biodiesel from waste cooking oil from campus and other local sources. Their efforts were recently highlighted in an article in the Truman Index. (9/21)
